Municipal Master Plan

Nederveld is concentrating on bringing the concept of smart growth to communities throughout West Michigan as part of our planning endeavors. It is our belief that the only real way to preserve our rural heritage is through the strengthening of urban places. Indeed, there is a direct connection between the two. Our placemaking activities encompass both sides of this spectrum, with master planning as the cornerstone.

Our master planning activities range from neighborhood planning to creating entire new towns for a variety of clients. Much of what we do is based on the transect, which was developed by Duany Plater Zyberk and Company. The transect is an idealized geographical slice from the countryside to the city, encompassing all ranges of the human habitat. It is an instrument of design which correlates the various components of the rural to urban continuum and allows for the creation of complex, contextually sensitive human environments.
