Field Measuring Above Ground Tanks
The liquid in an above ground tank can produce an offensive odor that drifts into the community. When this occurs companies are typically mandated to contain the odor. The best way to seal the tank is with a customized cover or roofing system using the exact geometry and elevation. However, these large tanks are not often built symmetrical, which leads to a very intense field data-gathering process.
Scope of Project
Nederveld was hired to provide measurements to fabricate the tank cover. Along with traditional surveying we used our High Definition Scanning service to capture the measurements for the elevations, tank rims, service bridges, piping and extensions that rise out of the tank. The final deliverable provided to the design and fabrication engineers was a CAD file along with the site survey.
Cost Savings or ROI
Our services to scan and survey the tank, including the drafting time for detailed and accurate information was an additional 30% over the cost of a traditional survey. In the end our client saved time and money. The installation was several days ahead of schedule and the new system didn’t need any field modifications.
