Hudsonville Architectural Design Elements

Hudsonville Architectural Design Elements Portfolio adopted into City Ordinance

In October 2006, the City of Hudsonville formally adopted The Hudsonville Architectural Design Elements Portfolio into the city’s zoning ordinance. This document, which is part of Ottawa County’s Urban Smart Growth Demonstration Project, will aid the city in giving form to future development. The document is a highly visual, graphics based architectural guidebook intended to illustrate the intended character of the community to developers, citizens and planning staff. During the creation and implementation process, which took over one-year, several public meetings occurred with residents, business owners and other stakeholders in order to establish this vision and character.

The Hudsonville Architectural Design Elements Portfolio provides patterns for buildings as a resource for individual owners, local builders and architects. These patterns include building massing and composition, architectural standards, window details, examples of possibilities and material guidelines for a selected series of building types. These types include mixed-use, retail, cottage retail and light industrial buildings.
