In our new communities, we use architecture that is based on historical precedence to create a sense of place. Existing cities and towns have a wealth of buildings which capture the ideals of placemaking that we strive for. These historic structures were built in a time when building construction was meant to last hundreds of years. They were built of solid materials and old growth wood and detailed in such a way to enliven and enrich the human experience. These buildings represent our society’s history, while defining the public realm in very positive ways.
In preserving historic buildings, we are strengthening our existing cities and towns, while providing unique places for people to live and work. In addition to preserving such wonderful buildings, we are also practicing sustainability, because there is nothing more sustainable than adaptively reusing an historic building.
